About the Mama and the Movement

about me - the mama and the movement

Hey mamas! My name is Faye and I am the mama behind Mama Movement.

Mama Movement the label was registered in February 2020. But the idea had started brewing long before that.

Childhood and Adolescence

I was always a strong and independent little girl. At the age of 10, I built my first website - an online blog / pen-pal community for girls from all around the world, connecting on the topic of GIRL POWER! I named my blog Galz Rule! 🤣

But then puberty hit and I went from being a skinny girl to a curvy teenager. I was teased about my weight. I went on my first “diet” at the age of 14. I spent much of my adolescence oscillating between being confident, because I was smart and good at sport, yet also feeling ashamed and insecure, because I didn’t feel skinny enough to be beautiful.

Body insecurity and eating disorders plagued me for years. 😔

Strong is Beautiful

At the age of 25, my friend asked me to go with her to a free dance class. I fell in love with the dance studio, because this was my first introduction to a community of women who believed in the mantra that STRONG IS BEAUTIFUL. Oh, and I forgot to mention, this was a pole dancing studio. 😜

I even competed in pole dancing for a few years at the amateur level. I was converted, I no longer coveted being skinny, I had learned that STRONG was so much better! I also started doing yoga and HIIT classes. I was addicted to fitness!

New Beginnings

When I had my little girl, I fell in love with her the moment I met her. She was so perfect, so beautiful, and I vowed to myself that I would do everything in my power to give her a different experience of her body, than the experience I had. 👶🏻

However, I didn't "bounce back" after pregnancy, in fact I had pelvic weakness which I didn't even realise until I started wetting myself when I had my first post-baby cold!! It was only through months of gentle and guided training that I started to regain my strength again. My body now is not the same as it was pre-baby, and it never will be again. But I'm ok with that, because it birthed my beautiful daughter. ❤

The Mission

Through Mama Movement, I have an ambition to help hundreds, or even THOUSANDS of women to celebrate their strong, beautiful incredible bodies. I want to help mums learn to love their bodies again, even if motherhood has changed them. And I want future generations, boys and girls, to grow up with a strong and body positive role model in their lives, who will show them that STRONG is BEAUTIFUL.

Mama Movement has been consciously created to sprinkle positivity. We are on mission to start a movement of self-love, and body positivity, led by mums.
